Contact Us

Finding innovative ways to reduce waste and promote sustainability in our products is a top priority for First Choice Packaging and thermoformed food packaging containers are no different. With the global population growing and consumer demand for convenience rising, it is essential to explore solutions that minimize the environmental impact of food packaging materials. Read on to learn more about the latest developments and packaging technologies aimed at reducing waste.

The Environmental Impact of Traditional Food Packaging

Traditional food packaging, often made from materials like plastic and styrofoam, has a significant environmental impact. These materials are derived from fossil fuels, contributing to carbon emissions and climate change. Additionally, they are not easily biodegradable, leading to long-term pollution of land and oceans. The production and disposal of traditional packaging also consume vast amounts of energy and resources, further exacerbating environmental issues. It's clear that a shift towards more sustainable packaging alternatives is crucial to mitigate these harmful effects.

The Benefits of Sustainable Food Packaging Containers

The shift towards sustainable food packaging brings a host of benefits for both businesses and the environment. Companies that adopt sustainable packaging practices can enhance their brand image and attract environmentally conscious consumers who prioritize eco-friendly products. By reducing waste and choosing renewable materials, businesses can also lower their operational costs in the long run. Moreover, investing in sustainability can future-proof businesses against changing regulations and consumer preferences, ensuring long-term success in a rapidly evolving market.

Sustainable Packaging Solution Case Study

First Choice Packaging recently helped U.S. Cotton convert 100% of its PVC blisters to recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate), also referred to as rPET. Because of our experience with rPET materials, including using millions of pounds of post-consumer rPET annually, we were confident that we could assist this client to achieve a sustainable packaging solution.

The result was rPET blister packaging that utilizes over 1.5 million pounds of rPet annually. You can read more about this sustainable packaging solution here

Finding the Right Sustainable Food Packaging Container for Your Business

First Choice packaging has been focused on more sustainable solutions for years as evidenced by our history -

  • FCP uses millions of pounds of post-consumer rPET annually.
  • FCP recycles its rPET annually as follows:
    • 100% of scrap generated during production process is collected.
    • Supersacks are shipped to plastic film suppliers to extrude back into rPET film rolls.
    • Scrap is ground into plastic flake and packed in supersacks.
    • Recycled film is shipped back to FCP to be used in new production for recycling into other products.
  • FCP also bales all of its non-PET scrap, for conversion back into film or for recycling into other products.
